Torches “I Want Something”

Torches are from L.A. and they just released their first full length called Heads Full Of Rust and I must say it will be shuffling in my iPod for a long time to come. Great emotive tracks throughout that will leave you with memories that will last a lifetime and harken back to that one summer. Lead track “I Want Something” is the ideal tune heading into the warm season with it’s catchy hooks and all around feel goodness that reaches into your soul and grabs hold of your happy. Buy the album here and thouroughly enjoy “I Want Something” below.

We're on fire!... Get it?.. Because their name is Torches.

At first I thought this was the name of the adult film industry’s version of Harry Potter and it should be. But thankfully it wasn’t. One of the great things about being a music miner is digging up priceless gems like The Magic Wands. I always check the new releases on Tuesday and low and behold my pick axe knocked loose their debut full-length Aloha Moon. Described as a cosmic dance through a universe where voices echo, keyboards shimmer and guitars splash like giant waves on a distant planet’s shores. Well, yeah. SPIN describes their first single “Space” as such: ‘Space’ is the first single from the band’s debut full-length, Aloha Moon, and it’s a sexy and propulsive stunner. Dexy and Chris Valentine build an atmospheric and cutting guitar soundscape that beautifully foreground’s the former’s compellingly stoic vocal. It’s just a really cool song, suggestive of the darker side of ’80s pop and brighter side of falling in love.” This is an album that will jiggle your heart and envelop your being. Buy buy buy here. I Love You, It's Cool

Brooklyn based Bear In Heaven’s follow up to Beast Rest Forth Mouth(2010) feels like a psychedelic themed adventure through a neon forest leaving you exhausted yet yearning for more. Chasing synth’s swirled around electronic ethereal beats with honey toned vocals dripping over. Hmmmm..sounds like what’s for breakfast. Get you a plate full below with the lead single “A Reflection Of You” and then chase that with “Cool Light”. Buy here

I’m posting the Soundcloud embed instead of the music video because you literally need to take a Dramamine to watch it. You will get nauseous.

Oh man I can just picture Wooderson leaning up against “Melba Toast” with these guys blaring out the speakers. White Bone Rattle is a psych rock outfit formed in 2009 from out of Maidstone/UK comprised of two pairs of brothers. Their sound is vintage 60′s-70′s rock, meaning heavy guitar coupled with sexy riffs and harmonies. If you were around in the 60′s and 70′s then these guys will take you right back and you will smile. If you weren’t then close your eyes and imagine how sweet it was. Check out the power guitars in “Seven Eves” from the EP Far Beyond The Settled Mind(2010). It is quite awesome! They have also recently released the single “When I Return” and you can grab the free download from their Bandcamp page or below and while you are there get “The Ferryman” too. Wooderson tell them why-”Alright,alright, alright. Cause it would be a lot cooler if you did!” Ready for a time warp? Then go here and then snag the EP here.

Why yes that is White Bone Rattle I'm listening to!

Shearwater

Austin, TX is the land of Indie with “Austin City Limits” and “SXSW” as well as all the great bands that come from there. Here is another one. Shearwater was formed in 1999 from Jonathan Meiburg and Will Sheff of the fab Okkervil River, although Sheff is no longer with the band. The band’s name comes from the shearwater, a tribe of seabirds related to petrels and albatrosses. Meiburg, who holds a master’s degree in geography with a focus on ornithology, picked the name mostly for the sound of the word. Interesting indeed. Shearwater just recently released their latest Animal Joy on Sub Pop records and the sonic attack is wonderful. “Breaking The Yearlings” sounds like a revenge anthem in a shoot em up thriller featuring Jason Statham  and “You As You Were” plays in the background as Jason pieces together his plan. He then receives the MTV movie award for the most carcasses left behind. Thank you Shearwater.  All because of you! Check the tracks below and then grab this incredible album here on iTunes.

Time for some lead in your cakehole!

Young Magic “Sanctuary”

"Melt"

These guys have a very unique sound that is parts African rhythm with a little hip-hop thrown in topped off with some psychedelia. They just recently released their debut full length “Melt” on Carpark records and it is an album to not listen to while under the influence as it will float you to places you may never return. I SAID DON”T! but you really don’t need any extra-curriculars to float with this. Just shut your eyes and tell me about it later when you return. Check out the amazingly beautiful “Sanctuary” below and then go get your copy to take you to Never Never Return Land here.

Hipster approved!

Loyal Divide “Vision Vision/Perv Fury”

Bodice Ripper

Formed in Columbus, OH but now out of Chicago Loyal Divide classify themselves as Psychedelic, Electronic, and Crunk but you can also add SoulPop and ElectroPop and possibly ElectroFunk to the mix. They just released their full length titled “Bodice Ripper” in Oct. of 2011 and already are getting momentum behind tracks like Perv Fury and Vision Vision. The video below is for “Vision Vision” and it’s kind of an effed up video to boot but let’s call it that in the name of art. “Vision Vision” has a funky electro groove to it accented by some quirky sampling and it works awesomely. “Perv Fury” carries a darker element to it that creeps along and then explodes into an orgy of  inter-dividing noise. Quite unique!
