Kowalski “Take Care, Take Flight EP”

Hey Paddy, is that a Snicker's bar in the pool?

Hailing from Bangor, Ireland is the indie electro-pop outfit Kowalski who’s sound has been described as sun kissed, infectious, muscular, and dreamy. I do agree. I feel like I’m skipping across clouds being chased by neon orange monkey’s when I listen to them. Whoa! I need to stop writing these posts after I shroom out. Ok, I’m all betters now. Dive right in and stream the EP Take Care, Take Flight below and then you tell me how it makes you feel. Shroooming is optional. Get it here on their Bandcamp page.

I said it was optional...... but isn't it tempting?.....and pretty?

ALBUM OF THE WEEK!!!! Tanlines “Mixed Emotions”

This is the first album by these guys and it’s a beauty. They released an EP in 2010 titled Settings that gave promise and anticipation for an album release and they succeeded famously with Mixed Emotions. Check out the two lead tracks “All Of Me” and “Brothers” off this wonderful album below and then go get you it here.

Music History Repeats Itself!!!

We already featured “Lafaye” and The “Night” off the album in an earlier post so here’s another stellar track to check out off this already fantastic album. Enjoy “White Wind”.

Body Language

Brooklyn outfit Body Language are lighting up dance floors across the world with their stellar and electric grooves that have been known to cure paralysis. Angelica Bess has the perfect throwback disco sexiness in her voice to kickstart your heart and the boys don’t sound too bad themselves either. They released Speaks ,their EP ,in 2009 and then piggybacked off that to release their full length Social Studies in October of last year. Chock full of numerable and affable hits to please any palate Social Studies is an album to just put on repeat at your next party. Equal parts laid back chill and grooving thrill it’s a can’t miss body pleaser. P.S. fellas, it also works very well in the bedroom if you know what I mean…….Do you? If not email at me birdsandbees@gmail.com for full explanation with pictures. The album also has some killer remixes by StarSlinger, Tiger & Woods, Plastic Plates, and Keep Shelley In Athens. I picked a couple of my faves off the album for your ears so go get on your jammies and/or Snuggie and cuddle up to Body Language. I also included a track off the Speaks EP called “Work This City”. When your done jammie-ing head over to their website here to buy their stuff and interact. They are also very talented remix artists in their own right so anytime you see a remix by them jump on it.

Young Magic “Sanctuary”

"Melt"

These guys have a very unique sound that is parts African rhythm with a little hip-hop thrown in topped off with some psychedelia. They just recently released their debut full length “Melt” on Carpark records and it is an album to not listen to while under the influence as it will float you to places you may never return. I SAID DON”T! but you really don’t need any extra-curriculars to float with this. Just shut your eyes and tell me about it later when you return. Check out the amazingly beautiful “Sanctuary” below and then go get your copy to take you to Never Never Return Land here.

Hipster approved!

M+A “Liko, Lene, Lisa/Adidas”

Italy has long been one of my favorite places on the planet and these two just added to that strength with their uniqueness. Meet Italian wunderkinds Michele(Michael and it’s pronounced Mik-ay-lay) Ducci,19, and Alessandro(you should be able to translate this one) Degli Angioli,22 who together comprise the band M+A(get it?, it’s the first letters of their names). Things.Yes is their debut album released Nov. 11th of 2011 in which “Liko, Lene,Lisa” was the lead track. They create sample based electronic pop ear candy in which they throw in some horns, keyboards, warped vocals and maybe even some harps to create an intriguing and promising sound. “Adidas” is my favorite track from an album of many with it’s chill electronic tempo. Images of clubbing in Italy dance in my head when listening to it and then all of a sudden when it slows down those images transform to playing slow motion hopscotch with the characters of Alice In Wonderland, but that is most likely just me. l’Italia molto impressionata! Check out both tracks below and then go buy this wonderfulness here on iTunes.

Palpitation “In Five Years”

Palpitation is a two piece (Maria Vejde, Ebba Carlén and sometimes with friends,) indie twee band from Sweden. They create upbeat music with gloomy undertones fused with husky, grated vocals. The mixture leads to music that is “love at first listen”, perfect for those drab Sundays where you sit and look out the window and watch the world go by slowly. They released I’m happy now EP in 2008, and in April 2010 their self-titled album Palpitation was released on Luxury Records. Their latest album, I’m Absent, You’re Faraway was released in June 2011.- Taken from their Myspace page because I couldn’t have said it any better. Check out the video for “In Five Years” and then check out the awesome remix by Niva and then buy all their beautiful tunes here on iTunes. Thanks and enjoy the show!

New Miike Snow Album out in March!!!!

Holy crap! When I heard this my hairs stood on end. New Miike Snow are you kidding me?! Hell yeah!!!!!!!!! I love this band and am totally excited about their new album “Happy To You” out on March 27th. This track is just perfect with it’s minimal electronic hum in the beginning that builds to a sexy serpentine swirl towards the end. Oh! and a little bonus for us with this, Miss Lykke Li and her loveliness make a cameo. Cannot go wrong with this folks. Get ready for another great year of music in the Indie world. Miike Snow will be a big part of it for sure. Now get ready to hit repeat til your hand goes numb!!!!!!!!!!

School of Seven Bells “Lafaye/The Night”

SVIIB as they are affectionately known in Indie circles are a dream pop duo consisting of Benjamin Curtis from Secret Machines and originally Alejandra and Claudia Deheza(identical stunning twin sisters) and they are named for the mythical South American pickpocket training academy. Claudia left the group in 2010 for personal reasons and now Ben and Alejandra remain. They have two full length albums to their catalog(Alpinisms-2008 and Disconnect From Desire-2010). They will be releasing a 3rd next month titled “Ghoststory” and which the track “Lafaye” and “The Night” will come from. Both songs are beautiful ear candy and should be added to your immediate playlist/s. Their previous albums can be bought here on iTunes or here from Amazon whichever you prefer. Get your shoes shined, it’s time to stare at them.

A musical hi-five to you too Alejandra! Umm...hey what's up Ben!

Frankie Rose- Know Me

Frankie Rose is a vocalist, songwriter and musician living in Brooklyn, NY. She is no stranger to the indie world, she was formerly an original member of the bands Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls, and the Vivian Girls.  Some of us prefer to fly solo and she can definitely stand up on her own. If I owned a scooter I would cruise around town to this song, but I would be wearing a helmet because I’m a nervous ninny.
