I’m not kidding when I say this just might be my favorite track of the year thus far. Within seconds I was like “OMG-spot, this is my new jam!” Young Wonder are from Cork, Ireland and make ungodly amazing electronic ear love. They released their self titled EP mid-April and “Orange” is the lead track. “Orange” is a great party jam with it’s chill flow and Rachel Koeman’s gorgeous vocals gliding in and out of the sexy roll of the electro. Buy the EP here and jam to “Orange” below because it’s the fuggin’ shib!!!!!!

I’ve loved The Stones for a while now. Ummm……no…not those Stones but the brother sister duo from Australia(Angus and Julia). Julia just released her first full length By The Horns and let me tell you she can definitely pipe. Her brother Angus is flat out amazing and one of my favorite artists but Julia can hang right with him. Her pixie like voice floats over the chords and notes teasing the listener with subtle hints of playfulness and heartfelt joy and sorrow. Breathtaking!! This album will hold you, cuddle you, and have you feeling emotions you probably forgot you had. A definite must for your music library. Enjoy the sublimely beautiful “It’s All Okay” below and stay connected here.

On The Rise: Carousel

Carousel began producing/playing music together while attending Berklee College of Music. There they developed a unique sound that pairs the drive of electro with the melodic temperament of indie pop. That’s a damn good thing too folks! They have an EP called 26 Allston which was released late 2011 and includes 4 very strong tracks that will get your toes gigglin’ and your feet wigglin’. Recently they have released “Where Have You Gone”(my favorite thus far) and “Let’s Go Home”. Every release is getting stronger as they are becoming a more cohesive and seasoned unit with the promise of greater things on the horizon. Keep your ear peeled for more from these guys and stay connected here and download here for more from this soon to take off group. Sample below.

Off of 26 Allston.

My fave!

Sleigh Bells “Demons(Diplo Remix)”

Most of you should know who Sleigh Bells are and their powerful guitar driven music with Alexis’ rap hoppy lyrics flowing strong like bull over them. Well Philadelphia super DJ Diplo takes their track “Demons” off their album Reign Of Terror and makes it let’s say demonier(yeah that’s a word, at least for now it is). See for yourself. Hit it!!!!

Churches “Lies”

Not much is known about this group except that it’s two guys and a girl(no and not a pizza place) from Glasgow. I do know that this track deserves your attention with it’s powerful anthemic electro beat and commanding female vocals that will have your adrenalin dancing in your veins like Carlton on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Your adrenaline will look something like this!

Ghost Loft “Seconds”

There are certain songs that conjure images of pure and raw sexuality that get the mind racing and the libido amped. “Seconds” is such a song. I know once you hear it you will be all like “Damn, I gots to play this for my lady the next time we get all amorous and shizz!” or something to that extent. Ghost Loft is Danny Choi from L.A. and although he currently only has a couple tracks out he is planning to release an EP by the end of the year. Check out “Seconds” below and then his ultra sexy remix of JJ’s “Beautiful Life”. Go grab your girl/guy and press play.

Album of the Week!! Kimbra “Vows”

You all remember Gotye’s “Someone That I Used To Know” correct? Yeah well if you don’t this young lady accompanied him on vocals and now she has just released her first full length album and it’s wonderful. Kimbra’s addictive and surreal vocals caress every track like the waves caress the shore at midnight on a hot summer’s day. Coupled with the powerful and perfectly crafted pop that is Vows she creates an aural and visual Pandora. A brilliant world, and a brilliant debut! Buy it here!

On The Rise: Quiet Hounds

At times I will hear a band or song that just grabs my ear and immediately I give in to fully embrace what it is I am hearing. Quiet Hounds is such a band. I found them on their Bandcamp page and I liken the find to that of miner who has toiled for days searching for that one piece of gold that will make him rich and happy for the rest of his life and alas after all his hard work he stumbles upon it with great joy, satisfaction, and reward. Such was I when I first played Southern Charm and instantly realized the quality of this gold piece I had just found. MASSIVE! I then proceeded to play “Hemlock” and “Night Parade” and I almost cried at the beautiful pop melodies I was hearing. Did I just find my Holy Grail of Indie? My Wilson on an island of mainstream radio horribility(this word may be made up)? I believe the answer is a resounding YES!!!!! I have literally had these guys on rotation since that wondrous day and I implore you to listen in hopes you will do the same and realize the talent that lies within the Quiet Hounds. Fun fact for you: They perform in hound masks. Hounds of the Maskervilles perhapsical(I’m outta control, so sorry)? Stream the album below and check out the first single “I Get Up” off their upcoming second LP Megaphona to be released June 4th.

Time to let the dogs out.....and into your ears!

Lead single off their album Gossamer to be released July  23rd on Columbia. I fell for their sound after their 2009 release Manners and am excited for the album based on “Take A Walk” and it’s on the money signature Passion Pit sound. Get on board if you aren’t already. Passion Pit will be a feature band at Lollapalooza this year and they are on my must see/hear live list for the summer.

When I first heard the lead single “Strange Attractor” I knew this was an album I couldn’t wait to be released. During my toiling, anguished days waiting in anticipation I played “Strange Attractor” on an endless loop and that helped me stay grounded until the glorious day arrived of The Looking Away release. I bought it the day before just as the clock stroked midnight and I hit the purchase button and watched with eager joy the number of tracks being downloaded dwindle from 10 to 0. My moment hath arrived! Upon the first note being played I had a smile that would make the Joker envious and my neighbor’s worried. Lush, atmospheric pop with Richard Sauberlich’s buttery toned vocals laid over. Ahhh….yes!!! Please enjoy thouroughly the vidoe for “Strange Attractor” and then one of my other faves from the album “White Sparks” below and do yourself a favor and buy this amazing album here.

WTH?! Is it my birthday this week or what? Two of my favorite artists dropping new tunes in the same week. First Snowmine and now RAC who by the way collaborated with another fave in Penguin Prison to put out “Hollywood”. RAC is known for their amazing remixes(hence their name) but this here is an original track and it shines just as brightly as their stellar remixes. Penguin Prison’s(Chris Glover) vocals lie atop the perfectly crafted pop beat from RAC to create another party tune for your next playlist or night cruise. Get ready to dance! Then when you’re done and rested download it for free here.

New Snowmine track “Saucer Eyes”

We here at MH5 love us some Snowmine so when I heard they had just put out a new single I dropped everything and ran to the computer to listen. Thank god I wasn’t holding my 1 year old niece! After the first few chords I was smiling greatly as I knew immediately that they had not failed to disappoint. Vintage Snowmine sound with their airy guitar riffs and Grayson Sanders signature vocals that let you know right away that yes, this is another stellar Snowmine tune. If you haven’t heard these guys yet get in the know here. Check out “Saucer Eyes” below and then stay tuned here for updates on more from this amazing band.
