At first I thought this was the name of the adult film industry’s version of Harry Potter and it should be. But thankfully it wasn’t. One of the great things about being a music miner is digging up priceless gems like The Magic Wands. I always check the new releases on Tuesday and low and behold my pick axe knocked loose their debut full-length Aloha Moon. Described as a cosmic dance through a universe where voices echo, keyboards shimmer and guitars splash like giant waves on a distant planet’s shores. Well, yeah. SPIN describes their first single “Space” as such: ‘Space’ is the first single from the band’s debut full-length, Aloha Moon, and it’s a sexy and propulsive stunner. Dexy and Chris Valentine build an atmospheric and cutting guitar soundscape that beautifully foreground’s the former’s compellingly stoic vocal. It’s just a really cool song, suggestive of the darker side of ’80s pop and brighter side of falling in love.” This is an album that will jiggle your heart and envelop your being. Buy buy buy here. Exit Music “From Silence” EP

First heard this band a few days ago and before the first song was over(“The Sea”) I was in love and wondering on how this group managed to slip by me undetected.  I immediately bought their EP From Silence at the show and played it repeatedly until my car’s battery died. Aleksa has a haunting yet captivating voice that enters your head and seizes your tympanic membrane in an albeit loving yet aggressive embrace. I love the lead track “The Sea” so much that I have literally played it 1000 times in 3 days.  Check out “The Sea” in all it’s glorious beauty below and then go buy it here. BTW Aleksa is also in actress and has been in The Sopranos and a few movies but most recently she stars as Michael Pitt’s wife in Boardwalk Empire. Yeah, she’s pretty damn talented.

Aleksa with husband Devon. So talented!!

This is such a cool track!! Performed by Michael Kiwanuka, Ben Howard, and The Staves at SxSW this past March.

This song does this to my face!!!!

Spencer Krug(half of Wolf Parade’s genius) has put out a dark gem of an album with Heartbreaking Bravery. Krug’s unique tone warbles over manic beats that reach out and grab you by the throat and demand your full attention. Tracks like “Teary Eyes and Bloody Lips”,”I’m Not The Phoenix Yet” and “Shitty City” will get you moving and on the converse the tracks “Heartbreaking Bravery”, “Lay Your Cheek On Down”, and “Faraway Lightning” will have you contemplating, meditating, and gesticulating. Krug’s voice is equally gorgeous and frustrating at the same time. You will either love it or hire an assassin to end it’s reign. Either way Heartbreaking Bravery is an album to embrace and let wash over you. Krug is a rock genius!!! Check out “Im Not The Phoenix Yet” below and get the album here.

Kwes “Bashful”

British producer/multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Kwes will release his new EP Meantime at the end of the month with the lovely single “Bashful” leading the way. I imagine this tune playing over a romantic scene in a Jennifer Aniston vehicle where the male lead is mustering up enough courage to go over and talk to her but let’s her slip away. Oh snap! Now he’s gonna go home and trash his apartment because he was to scared to talk to her. Gotta seize these moments fellas even if it really Jennifer sitting there. Hell, at the very least you can say you hit on Jennifer Aniston. That’s awesome in itself and hey maybe she says yes in an alternate universe and you instantly become Captain Immortal with the ballsiest move ever. Way to go sport!! Check it out below and then check it out again because it’s that good. Buy it here.

Do not play this song around spring breakers. I repeat do not. There will be alot of drunken Woo Hoo’s and probably a few “This is my jam’s” as well not to mention a new TV show called most likely Spring Breakin’ and Pregnant a year later. This tune is so sexy that I heard Snooki got pregnant just by hearing it…..and then proceeded to ramble off some expletives before passing out in her own vomit. See, this is what I’m saying. Fellas be careful! We don’t need another one of those running around. Play this only in the bedroom with your lady or your mp3 device. You don’t want the police knocking on your door with a girl you never saw before yelling “That’s him, he’s the father. He was the one playing Jai Paul” Now I am gonna post the tune below but be sure to check around you before pressing play to avoid any law suits. As for the women just be safe and use protection before hitting the play button. OK ready?……………..Did you check first boys? You may proceed but only if the coast is clear.

Check out the comments. I think at least two of them are claiming Jai Paul is the father!!

OMG I think I'm pregnant!! Me too!! Woo Hoo!!

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

I Love You, It's Cool

Brooklyn based Bear In Heaven’s follow up to Beast Rest Forth Mouth(2010) feels like a psychedelic themed adventure through a neon forest leaving you exhausted yet yearning for more. Chasing synth’s swirled around electronic ethereal beats with honey toned vocals dripping over. Hmmmm..sounds like what’s for breakfast. Get you a plate full below with the lead single “A Reflection Of You” and then chase that with “Cool Light”. Buy here

I’m posting the Soundcloud embed instead of the music video because you literally need to take a Dramamine to watch it. You will get nauseous.

Conduits “Misery Train”

These guys are from the city of which I was borned. Good ole Omaha, NE. You wouldn’t guess that though by their sound since Omaha is more known for churning out singer/songwriter types than atmospheric shoegaze rockers. Formed in 2009 with members from Eagle Seagull, The Golden Age, Son Ambulance, and Cursive they released their self titled debut album last week via Team Love records and it’s lovely. Experience the experience below with the beautiful “Misery Train”. Buy it here
